Whenever I stay up too late I always get a sleep deprivation hangover the next day. I was up until 4am, then went to breakfast at 9, then sleept from around noon until 3pm, and I still feel like ass. and I still have some work to do. :( Hoefully tomorrow i'll feel ok for a long drive to go visit my parnents for the holidays.

Happy Holidays!

I hope everyone's having a good wind-down towards Christmas or whatever your holiday of choice is. I went caroling with some coworkers through the hallways today, it was lots of fun. One of our member sdidn't join us b/c she's Jewish I think unfortunately, but I'm an atheist and the songs don't bother me, they're fun music. :)

new blogger

I'm not too happy with the new Beta Blogger thing. When I'm surfing websites via Blog Explosion and I go to comment, the new Blogger closes the frame that BE puts it in, so I don't get the credit for visiting if I want to comment. :(

So if you're here and you use Blogger, switch back to the old format, or you won't get any traffic from traffic sharing sites.

NYC bans trans fat

Trans fat is artificially made, and NYC restuarants now have until sometime in 2008 to stop using them for frying foods and such. Wow. At first I thought they were banning all fat in food, which would be impossible... They also said that if a resturaunt's gonna show any ingredient info, they have to do ALL, and right on the menu, which some are worried will make them do none instead.

For more of these science-y things, go to my other blog Modern Science.

bird

I want to adopt a second bird. Gabe gets lonely, and he likes the budgies (parakeets) that my neighbor next door owns. I also want a second bird for myself, as I want someone more playful than he is. I'm moving next summer I think, so this gives me plenty of time to start looking at bird rescues. there's not that many, or that much choice, around where i live though, so I may just end up buying from a pet store - I'd rather not buy from a chain like PetCo, as they tend to come from massive breeders which don't always take the best care fo their birds, but I can check out small local pet stores, and also breeders.

scarves

today I got a bunch of Christmas-y gift bags for 50¢ each at AC Moore crafts, and a package of 100 sheets of tissue paper for something like five or six bucks. I'm going to make a few more scarves and stick them in these bags. I'm thinking of hopping back over to the fabric store tomorrow to get more colors of fleece. We'll see. I should do work too, maybe I'll do scarves and errands tomorrow, and working Sunday.

Scarves

Earlier this week I went to a fabrics store and bought some fleece and some remnants. The fleece will make warm scarves, the remnants will make fancy scarves. I figured out how to use my sewing machine, and I can now hem up the edges, and I'm planning to give them to friends as gifts. However, I'll have plenty of fabric left over and want to see about selling more scarves, like thru eBay or something. Anyone have much luck selling things?

RIP

One of my online friends had her baby albino cockatiel Falcor pass away at 2am this morning. Makes me cry.

no snow

I was disappointed at the lack of snow today. we didn't get school chancelled, and didn't even get flurries let alone ANYTHING sticking on the ground. I was also hoping i could get to try my new car on the snow - I know my old one was great at handling in the snow, but i've no clue how my new one does.

Star car mirror dangle

I'm looking for a star-shaped mirror dangle for my car's rear view mirror. I can't find anything that's just right. I should probably look among the Christmas ornaments everywhere. My car is a 2006 Honda Civic in the lighter blue. If you have any suggestions for something I could get online, leave a comment.

Weekend

I spent so much of this past weekend washing dishes. It really sucked, but it was really needed. I'm not good at washing them, so some were left over from a party a few weekends ago. :(

BlogExplosion still there?

What the hell's up with blog explosion these days? It seems like there's only five different blogs that I keep going to when I'm visiting blogs to earn credits, and no body ever comes to my blogs to comment any more. Anybody still using BE?

Do you have a different traffic exchange site that you use and can recommend? If so, I'm willing to sign up under you if it gets you referral points. Just tell me what you like about it.

Google Calendar

Since I think the reason pay per post rejected this blog is that I'd backdated a few posts, I'm going to try and blog here more consistently. To do this, i'mg oign to try to put it as an event in Google's calender to blog every couple days. Let's see if I can figure this out...

AdBrite

I've now replaced my Google ads with AdBrite ads. Google's Adsense never earned me enough money to get a check, and I've heard that they tend to dump you if they suspect you're "cheating," they refuse to tell you what "cheating" is, and they won't reply to your inquiries about being dumped.

One of the apparently neat things about AdBrite is that you get to approve who puts ads on your site. One of the drawbacks is you have to convince advertisers they want to advertise on your site. So this all means I'm probably going to get crappy-ass ads for a while, but click on them anyway. :-P And you can do referrals - if you're thinking of joining, please click via my link below.

Pay-per-post

Aw fooie! Pay-per-post rejected this blog again. The issue I assume is that I haven't actually really been posting consistently for the last 90 days. The email *said* this blog hadn't existed for 90 days, but that's untrue, I just haven't been posting that whole time, I just let it sit and then "faked" some posts in the past few weeks. :-P I'll keep trying.

Anyone know of a similar service that's less strict?

El Nino?

Weather's unseaonsalbly warm here. Usually I have to have my landlord turn on the heat right after Halloween, but it's now right after thanksgibing and I don't still need it yet. it costs a lot so I'm waiting, since it's gas heat. I read on CNN or something yesterday that it might be because of El Nino. Ah, it was Wudnerground.

Worst job?

What do you think is the worst job possible?

Sometimes I hate how as a teacher, I always take work home, all the time. But I like teaching, it's exciting, it's never the same, and I get summers off. ^_^ One of my friends has a classified job. Once she leaves the office she's not allowed to talk about it! I'd like having all my home time to myself, but I'd get sick of not being allowed to tell people what I do, including a spouse, parents, or children.

At least my job's not dirty.

blah

I've been sitting at home for the past couple hours doing absolutely nothing. well, surfing the web. that's maybe worse than nothing. :-P

Thanksgiving

So what's everyone doing for Thanksgiving? I'nm trying to get together with some friends to go drinking at a bar, and also to see Borat in a theater. I haven't seen them in a long time since none of them live in the same city as me anymore.

everything I say is true, i'm just being super lazy about how i say it and not putting in any details. i should say stupid MySpace type stuff. I think it'd make my head explode.

weather

the weather's been a mixture of unseasonably warm, and nastily rainy. i haven't had to have my landlord turn on my heat yet which is a good thing, b/c the gas heat costs way too much. i've just bene using the electric heaters. i think i'll wait till after thanksgiving to have the heat turned on since it'd just be watsted over the holiday

trash

I alwasy wonder if I should shred things like exams that i write before i put them in my recycling at home. it's legal to pick through people's trash, so how do i know some enteprising student isn't stalking me and pulling out drafts of my exams? then i realize it'd be a lot easier for them to breka into my office and steal them that way. ;-P silly me

Halloween

My halloween party was pretty fun. I dressed as Marie Curie - I wore an old-timey dress and a glow-inthe dark wig. the theme was supposed to be science. another perosn was "full metal alchemist" (an anime show), another was a "library scientist". two people came together as creation science and intelligent design.

10 people stayed overnight - it didn't beat my record of 11. only one person helped me wash dishes after. foo

my stapler

is there a reason students don't own staplers this semester? people keep handing in multiple page papers that aren't stapled. they seem to think the pages will stay together by sheer force of will. some try to fold the corner, but that doesn't work. a few are smart enough to scrounge papercips, but why don't they then scrounge a stapler too?

zip code

If you ever need to lok up a zip code, the easiest way to do it is with the USPS page. you just put in the street address, town, and state, and it even gives you the zip4, which is more detailed.

garbage

this city has a strange system for garbage. everyone has to buy yellow city trash bags. they come in small and large, and the large ones cost $1 while the small cost 50 cents. then once a week you put them out on the curb, but the trash people only pick up the city trash bags, so if you use normal bags and don't put them inside a city bag they'll just stay there.

recycling's free though. you can get a bin free from the department of public works, or just use any bin you want. then you put the crap in it and they just empty it and leave the bin. so the freeness is an incentive to recycle. I only fill up a trash bag every other week since i live on my own and don't eat that much and i do recycle regularly.

USB thumb drive

I filled up my USB thumb drive. it was only 512 Megs, and since I often put on powerpoint presentations with all the images that just wans't big enough. i think i'm going to go get me a 1 or 2 gig. I like having it all in one place rather than having to fiddle around trying to find the right drive. i have to remember to backup things frequently, or i might run into problems if it fails.

pencils

i think im' more of a fan of mechanical pencils than normal wood pencils. they tend to stay sharper. b ut it's a pain sometimes to find lead, and they're ore expensive to replace when things go worng. but i'm always losing pencil sharpeners too, so i'm not really sure which's worse.

i wonder which's more environmentally sound?

dinner

I'm waiting for my friend/coworker to call me so we can go out to dinner. we and her husband are going to go to a hibachi place where they cook on the table right in front of you. we usually go there for sushi, but we keep meaning to try the hibachi and see how it is. i hope it's good, i'm really hungry. maybe is hould call her. or at least put on socks.

Gadz!

I'd forgotten that Google acquired Blogger. This means that there's a nice template to quickly ad Google Ads to your blog. It's not really set up to put in more than one ad though (and I believe the TOS allows some 3 or 4 ads), so editing the template directly is a better idea if you have a vague idea what you're doing.

I also discovered the referral buttons - that's how Howard Taylor of Schlock Mercenary gets a buck everytime someone installs Firefox. Whee.

Oh, the many ways one can procrastinate when supposed to be doing work...

number of posts

I also just saw on a payperpost thingit that I have to have at least 20 posts up prior to the ad for one particular one, so this's a post towards that number. Didn't say it had to have any content!

Welcome to Whoring Blog!

I have created this blog for the sole purpose of seeing if I can actually make money from blogging, from things like Google Ads, and PayPerPost. The latter requires the blog exists for 90 days before you can start using it, so someone remind me in three months, around October 1st.
